This week the
Lord allowed us to receive the first set of
permits from the City for which you have been praying.
We are filled with thanksgiving!!!
The work on the
site development can begin now: fencing,
ballfield, sewer, electrical and irrigation lines,
playground and general site preparation
of the phase I—on
The Neighborhood
Center.
OUR
NEIGHBORHOOD
Since January,
we have been on site in our small 400 square foot office space—in
those few months three fires have obliterated two crack houses and damaged
a third home, all on the street adjacent to
the center.
A large slum lord dwelling, consisting of old apartment like hovels
is in the process of begin condemned; this
buts up to the south end of the section we are developing.
And we’ve
experienced a few break-ins.
Our bike shop lost 35 bikes in
two raids last week. We got
almost half back. An
editorialist for
the Arizona Republic describes our neighborhood in an article
from this past year, saying that houses
are “fortified
like Alcatraz” because
it is a ‘high-intensity’
patrol area for the police. “In
recent years a considerable part of the local crack cocaine and
prostitution businesses have moved into the area.”
... “but
[it is] filled
with really wonderful people..., [who]deserve
a safe place to live.” “Cleaning
up a neighborhood is a down and dirty business, messy,
complicated ...”
God has allowed
us to move in here, this precious place, to rehab eight acres for The
future Neighborhood Center. And
this week we received permission to get started.
Praise the Lord with us and continue praying as we fund-raise and
work toward receiving the final building permits.
Our hope is
that permits and funding converge so we can move full
speed ahead.
The great news is we get to begin right now.
KIDS CAMP
Tomorrow
125 of us leave for camp in the beautiful AZ mountains.
Historically this has been a fabulous
time with kids. Pray for this
time—that
we might experience the Lord in all He has for us.
GOD BLESS YOU
FRIENDS. THANK YOU FOR
STANDING WITH US.
Love, Kit
