Summer Prayer Letter # 1
I wanted to update you, because we love your
heart and commitment to pray
for us.
We are amazingly aware that we are on our own
property this summer ... always hoping to never lose the awe of all
God has done to bring us to this place. Summer is traditionally a
mighty time of meeting God in new and powerful ways. Also, it is a
time of great warfare. Knowing the enemy wants to keep us from
finding that one lost kid, or helping someone know Him intimately.
Your prayer support will keep us from getting lost in the heartache
and fear of those moments, and help us to keep going forward ...
- Summer ministries are starting and your
steadfast intercession will make the difference!
- Every week, I will
give you an update, all the way until August. Thank you, thank
you for praying.
THE WEEK OF MAY
27-JUNE 1
INTERNS AND
SUMMER STAFF - This summer's staff began this
week, with training, jobs, mentors, prayer and registering kids
for summer programs ...
Amber Messner
Many of you might remember when Amber Messner graduated from high
school (1994). She was our first summer intern and that year was
the first of seven summers where she did the intense work of all
our programs. Amber is taking a well-deserved trip to Europe this
summer, leaving the developing leaders below to carry the great
load. We are celebrating with her the choice to serve the Lord in
a new way by taking on this adventure.
Pray for Amber and for these young people who will be in
the trenches this summer.
Please pray for this summer's staff:
Allison Nagle
- she is one of our two year interns and carrying a great load
with Kids Club.
Sarah Leon -
also a two year intern, planning major events for Kids Club.
John Spencer
- a two year intern leading two "I Can Do It" trips
Chris
Brewster - a new two year intern, raising support
and new to our ministry this summer
Rojelio Urias
- a new one year intern, from Mexico, just finished Bible School,
committed to helping with the preaching and home visits with the
Spanish congregation.
PRAY FOR THESE LONGER TERM STAFF,
- THAT THEY LEARN SPIRITUAL,
EMOTIONAL and PRACTICAL LESSONS FOR RUNNING THE LONG RACE,
- GLEANING FROM THOSE MENTORS WHO
ARE OLDER AND WISER,
- STABILIZING THE SHORT TERM TEAM
MEMBERS RELATIONALLY,
-
AND LEARNING FROM THIS YEAR'S
SUMMER EXPERIENCES.
Selina Alonzo - Junior High
Camp Director, carrying responsibilities for details of camp (June
7-11), and two junior high fun days this summer.
Ian Danley - also carrying Junior High Camp
details and fun days, taking
kids from L.A. to two camps in California.
Ulises Sandoval
- Work crew boss for Kids Club overseeing 75 work crew staff that
live together for two weeks.
Dallas Ryan
- Kids Camp Director, carrying responsibilities for details of
kids camp (July 21-26)
Kristen Martin
- shoring up the loads of other workers.
EVEN THOUGH
THESE LEADERS ARE CARRYING ONE MAJOR JOB,
THEY ALSO DO THE ENTIRE SUMMER OF MANY MINISTRIES WITH THE OTHER
TEAM MEMBERS.
- PRAY FOR THEIR STAMINA,
- THEIR LEADERSHIP,
- THEIR DECISION MAKING,
- SUPERVISION OF OTHERS AND THEIR
MATURE CARE TAKING OF THEIR TEAM.
-
PRAY FOR THEM AS THE ENEMY
WOULD WANT TO TAKE THEM DOWN.
This Summer's
Interns:
Andy Allen -
Intern team director . Andy has been a summer intern for four
years and this year gives direction to the schedule and activities
of the
other interns.
Diane Crew -
Diane has been a part of the summers here for seven years and has
been an intern for many years. She studied Spanish in college and
is now fluent.
Sarah Curry
- Sarah comes to us from Kentucky and was looking for an
opportunity to work with children in an urban mission setting.
Andrea Magri
- Andrea comes to us from a sister ministry in Virginia,
called Abundant Life Ministries and through the Spencer Perkins
Fellowship,
Nehemiah Urban Ministries Inc. She has a desire to do community
health care
work as a nurse and on top of her normal internship with us, is
working also
in our clinic.
Victor Lopez
- is famous here in N.M. and has his testimony published on our
web page. He is excited to graduate into this level of
leadership.
Joy Turner -
is a recruit through Food for the Hungry from North Carolina, she
is studying Social Work in university and will surly have the
experience of a life-time, so far, here.
Amy Van Amburg
- also comes as a recruit through Food for the Hungry,
International. She is coming from rural Kansas and is called into
ministry.
THESE YOUNG PEOPLE WILL
BE IN THE TRENCHES ALL SUMMER, SOME FOR THE FIRST TIME. THEY ARE
TESTING THEIR PASSIONATE HEARTS FOR THE KINGDOM, OR REFINING A
SENSE OF CALLING.
- THEY NEED DIRECTION,
- REST AFTER WEARY WEEKS,
- TIME FOR REFLECTION AND
GOOD COUNSEL. PRAY FOR THEIR MENTORS TO HAVE WISDOM,
- Pray for these interns TO HAVE EARS
TO HEAR TRUTH,
- TO HAVE
BREAKTHROUGHS AND CONFIDENCE.
ALL THESE YOUNG LEADERS
NEED YOU TO INTERCEDE FOR THEM! Thank you for loving them this
way.
PRAY FOR THE FIRST "I
CAN DO IT" TRIP
I Can Do It
is our comprehensive stay-in-school program for 45
5th-12th
graders. After a year of help in school, academic tracking,
positive peer
group support, and multiple incentives . the final end year trips
have been
earned.
SAN
ANTONIO - May 31-June 5
One Junior High Boys group will travel to San
Antonio, Texas. They will go
dam sliding and river tubing, go to Six Flags and see the sites.
- Pray for
safety in travel,
- bonding
with leaders and with each other,
- building
memories and a large worldview,
- committing
to another year of hard work in school,
- and
miracles along the way when tough stuff happens.
Thanks for praying. Would you also
keep in mind all our financial needs during these busy summer
ministries and pray for those to be met as well.
Be expecting these emails each week, with updates on
how things are going. Your intercession ROCKS!
We Love You, Kit
