Summer Prayer Letter # 2
We have been experiencing
the benefits of your praying ... thanks
RIGHT NOW ...
we are in the midst of Junior High Camp ...
tonight 40 kids and 15
leaders left three days of joyful, romping fun in
the beauty of Northern Arizona. This was no ordinary camp time.
Right about now they are pulling into a Southern California church
to spend two more days at the beach and Magic Mountain.
Overall, the kids have been
responding with sweet understanding ... They were
connecting, hearing truth and responding with soft hearts and a
desire to make significant changes. Their leaders
were blown away with hope. Our camp speaker was Max Torres from
Huston, TX and he was used by God to talk to our kids in
relevancy... last night was hugely important for quite a few. You
could say there was powerful ministry going on ... One dear mom, a
small group leader for one of our junior high girls groups,
entered the kingdom last night. We cried and embraced our dear
friend, for she has become unbelievably precious to us.
-
Thanks for praying for safety ... the vehicles were amazingly
cared for going up the mountains
- Pray
for ongoing small group times with kids and leaders ... the kids
are really opening up
- Pray
for meaningful memories -- there are a few kids who have been
infrequent attendees all year, and are saying amazing things about
what they are experiencing at this camp
- Pray
for a few leaders who themselves are having spiritual
breakthroughs

THIS WEEK
an I Can Do It
group will be going up to the White Mountains to fish and camp in
tents and hike some canyons ...
these
boys have earned this trip with hard work and perseverance -- June
11 - 14
-
Pray that they reflect on the successes of this school year
that are bringing great rewards
-
and that this success can have spiritual side affects, with
leadership, character and godliness growing in these 5th and 6th
grade boys
-
Pray for the endurance of their leaders
UPDATES from your praying already

The
seventeen interns and summer staff are in the
trenches, loving kids, serving, working hard and developing as a
team for each other ... thanks for praying
please continue

San Antonio "I Can Do It"
was a fantastic experience ... I heard the highlights were dam
sliding, canoeing down a river, shopping at the River Walk, going
to a huge water park, playing 007 (a favorite night camp game),
and just simply traveling to Texas on an airplane... I heard the
food was amazing and your praying was felt.
A reflection from John Spencer this junior high boys
group's leader and one of our interns...
"During the trip to San Antonio, I asked a kid
from the family we were staying with, "what seems different about
the kids in the I Can Do It program?" He responded, "They
enjoy life. The laugh a lot more than any other kids I know."
Throughout my life, I have often viewed my experiences as mere
stepping stones toward a greater future. I have created goals and
objectives to accomplish my dreams and have worked hard toward
attaining these lofty ideals. But in the mean time, I have become
worried and anxious, virtually ignoring passages such as Matthew 6
and Luke 12. Certain kids have taught me to relax and enjoy
the gift of life. When I see the joy and celebration of Alonso's
birthday or playing basketball with Manuel and Daniel or laughing
and giggling in the car, I am lost in the moment and I forget
about the future. When I sit down with a child and weep with him
over his family situation or when he asks me questions about why
people suffer, I no longer worry about my budget or final exams or
when I'll some day get married. Because of the time that I spend
with these kids, I see life as a gift that is meant to be enjoyed
in the present."
You are keeping us in the game ...
your intercession is bringing lives into places of hope, stability
and joy. You can't believe the awareness that we have that each
child, leader and moment is woven together so purposefully. We
thank God for you this summer.
Love, Kit
