2007 Summer Prayer Letter #2

June 10

Dear Praying Friends,

Many hundreds of urban kids and youth will learn to pray this summer!

Kids Club in its different locations and forms is launched this week, with the theme:  “Shout it Out!  God is Listening” We wanted to write this summer’s curriculum around prayer.  Every lesson is filled with bible stories, activities, and memory verses from the Psalms; all toward the purpose of teaching our kids to pray.

Our kids and youth bring many heavy burdens to Kids Club.  Family pain, abuse histories, terrible worries that children shouldn’t have, demonic oppression, real physical enemies shooting in their neighborhoods and often at their own homes.  How powerless we are in the face of these realities.  But how powerful is God, who in the midst of these terrific issues, never runs and hides, gets overwhelmed, depressed or burned out!  Instead, He answers with responses that sometimes only children can fully grasp.

Psalm 34:4-8

I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.

This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Pray with us, that many learn to pray this summer.  Thank you, dear friends!

This Week (June 11-15):

Junior High Kids Club (120 kids/35 leaders)

Albuquerque Kids Club (100 kids/25 leaders)

Pray ……--

  • For the truth of prayer to go deep into the hearts of kids and leaders
  • For leaders and kids to bond relationally,
  • And truth to be told, so that pray-ers are learning to give real burdens to Jesus
  • For our diverse work crews to become “ONE” in Christ with each other
  • For van and bus drivers to find kids and for safety for all vehicles
  • For all the fun stuff:  field trips, morning program, activities
  • For leadership class:  preparing the junior work crew for regular kids club
  • For financial resources to pay for program costs
  • Here at NM, prayer to finish our new basketball court for regular kids club

“Prayer is elemental, not advanced language.  It is the means by which our language becomes honest, true, and personal in response to God.  It is the means by which we get everything out in the open before God."

--Eugene Peterson, Living the Message, 41. --
