The Art Center

The Art Center is a new venture of Neighborhood Ministries, offering kids in downtown Phoenix opportunities in the arts by providing relationship with Artist Mentors, art-based activity classes, and involvement in Dream Projects that they create and finish!

We have only started last fall, but have had the privilege of seeing a group of nearly 50 kids start a beautiful journey of expression with various mediums including photography, painting, drawing, fabric arts, ceramics, graffiti arts, break-dancing, guitar, mural, poetry and video.

We are excited to continue to offer more ways for our kids to discover and reveal the beauty beneath the rough edges and overlooked stories of their community and cultures!

Many dreams are waiting to be rescued, and many stories are waiting to be told; many kids are stuck in the struggle to survive, and many hearts are moved when they find a way to speak!

Text Box: Mural artists will work with a small group of jr. high or high school students through a curriculum that teaches team-work and the history of mural-making.  Then the artist groups will develop their identity and focus on researching and scouting the street they are targeting for murals.  Each group will set up 2 murals in one neighborhood with pre- and post surveys, and a barbeque with the neighborhood to celebrate the unveiling of both murals.
The purpose of the mural program is to bring students together who enjoy tagging and graffiti, educate them about the uses and styles that they can learn from, and give them a specific way to use their style in a meaningful in their neighborhood by building community.
Commitment:  each artist (4) will be paid a stipend to see this project through with their own group (3 month process max). Training and curriculum will be provided. The project will start Sept. 07 and end in Dec 07.
